Amala Atieh is a senior associate with more than 15 years of extensive experience in intellectual property, commercial and media law in the Middle East and North Africa. Amala's practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law, including trade marks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs, domain names, trade secrets and plant varieties.
Amala assists clients across different sectors to protect and commercialise their intangible assets and to navigate the IP and tech-related aspects of transactions, including large, complex carve-outs. She advises clients at various stages of their development on a cross- section of commercial, intellectual property, general litigation and technological matters, with emphasis on matters pertaining to branding strategy and development, IP portfolio management, e-commerce, consumer protection, anti-counterfeiting strategic planning, mini-IP audits and gap analysis, antitrust and competition guidelines, false advertising, franchising and commercial licensing of intellectual property.
Furthermore, she is a go-to advisor for several technology and media companies, who often seek her advice on complex and unsettled issues associated with artificial intelligence, digital assets, intellectual property as well as the growing intersection between entertainment, content development and technology.
Amala is an experienced litigator who represents clients in high-profile intellectual property proceedings (including online IP enforcement) as well as franchise and commercial litigation from inception to trial. She enjoys finding creative solutions to clients’ legal challenges by closely following the ever-changing landscape of general litigation. Her unique combination of complex litigation, IP and transactional experience enables her to navigate clients’ most complex legal issues in addition to providing holistic legal representation to brand owners, licensors, distributors and other franchise stakeholders. She also has extensive experience in handling domain name disputes before the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre.
Moreover, Amala is experienced in drafting and negotiating various types of complex national and cross-border IP, IT, and commercial contracts, such as franchise, license, distribution and supply agreements. She also regularly assists developers or owners of online platforms and mobile apps in the preparation and negotiation of their platforms' and apps' agreements.
