We have advised Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS) on its sale to Mitsubishi Electric, a transaction that will strengthen Mitsubishi's distributed energy resources management solutions.
Based in the UK, SGS is a leading global provider of distributed energy resources (DER) management software for power distribution utilities and DER operators.
Electric grid operators throughout the world are experiencing an increasingly complex mix of new decentralised power generation and clean energy resources. SGS offers highly flexible, scalable solutions allowing users to integrate DER for capacity management, flexible interconnection, virtual power plants, microgrids, fleet energy asset operations and energy as a service.
This complex deal drew on expertise from across the firm's Corporate, Competition, EU and Trade, Banking & Finance, Employment, Tax & Incentives, Pensions, Real Estate, and Commercial Technology and Data teams.
Commenting on the transaction, Corporate & Life Sciences Partner Siobhán Langwade, said: "SGS has a fantastic, innovative offering, helping install, manage and optimise renewable energy resources. This transaction is in our sweet spot as it brings together our sector focus on energy and infrastructure and our position as one of the pre-eminent firms for advising technology clients."
Brent Marshall, CEO of SGS added: “We are delighted to expand the reach of our energy management enterprise software to DER customers around the globe and – in turn – assist those customers to better manage DER assets as they strive to decarbonise their operations. The Taylor Wessing team were a huge support on the transaction, and we’d like to thank them for their insightful, pragmatic and commercially focused advice to help deliver the sale."
