We have advised Ninja Tune Records and its management team on the acquisition of the company by Concord, the world’s leading independent music company.
Founded in 1990 by musicians Matt Black and Jonathan More (aka Coldcut), Ninja Tune has spent over three decades at the forefront of the independent music scene, establishing itself as one of the most well-respected and credible record labels in the world.
The acquisition brings Ninja Tune's team and ethos into the Concord family, whilst expanding Concord Label Group's UK and European footprint and equipping Ninja Tune with the additional resources required to build upon its extensive global frontline success.
Ninja Tune will continue to operate under its current leadership team and from its existing UK and US offices, preserving the culture and independence that have defined the label since its inception. The transaction also encompasses Ninja Tune's publishing arm, Just Isn't Music, along with its roster of songwriters, composers, and producers.
Peter Quicke, Chair at Ninja Tune said: “Ed, Bryce and the rest of the Taylor Wessing team guided us through every stage of this process with real care and precision. They took the time to understand what Ninja Tune stands for and helped ensure that the values at the heart of our label remained central to the deal.”
Edward Waldron, private equity partner, said: “It's been great to work with the entire Ninja Tune leadership team as well as Jeremy Tracey and Mando Chastouki of Casini Corporate Finance on this transformative transaction with Concord. Over more than 30 years, Ninja Tune has championed independent artistry and we are delighted to have supported them in securing a partnership with Concord that will allow that legacy to continue.”
