The REWE Group has taken over the Lekkerland Group. In doing so, REWE has entered the wholesale market in Germany and created a new "Convenience" division under the REWE Group umbrella. Under the leadership of the Düsseldorf Partners Dr. Ernst-Albrecht von Beauvais and Stephan Manuel Nagel, the international law firm Taylor Wessing advised REWE Group on all legal aspects of the transaction. The acquisition is still subject to the condition precedent of various antitrust approvals.
The REWE Group, with headquarters in Cologne, is one of the leading trading and tourism groups in Germany and Europe with locations in 21 European countries. With more than 360,000 employees, the group generates an annual turnover of 57.8 billion Euros.
Lekkerland AG & Co. KG is a German wholesaler for food, beverages and tobacco products and, in addition to Germany, is also active in Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. Lekkerland supplies convenience and petrol station shops, the food retail trade, hotels, restaurant chains and other wholesale consumers. The group of companies employs almost 5,000 people.
The team based around Ernst-Albrecht von Beauvais and Stephan Manuel Nagel had already successfully advised the REWE Group on the takeover of the coop society in 2016. At the end of 2017, Taylor Wessing also advised the REWE Group on the takeover of 70 Kaiser's Tengelmann branches in the course of settling the dispute with EDEKA over ministerial approval.
