DMCCA - new consumer rules bite

The majority of the consumer protection elements of the UK's Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Act have applied since 6 April 2025 (although not the rules on subscription contracts). The new regime will impact most businesses targeting UK consumers and there are significant potential fines for failure to comply. We look at the new rules on unfair commercial practices, including fake and misleading consumer reviews and drip pricing. We also consider how these new rules will be enforced by the CMA under its new direct enforcement powers. Alongside this, we look at the EU's upcoming consumer protection reforms, notably under the planned Digital Fairness Act. You can also listen to our experts discuss some of the newly introduced elements of the DMCCA (links embedded in articles).
