Matt specialises in employment law and advises businesses ranging from SMEs to global corporations in all aspects of both contentious and non-contentious employment law in England and Wales, in addition to representing them at both the ACAS early conciliation stage and during employment tribunal litigation. He has a track record of advising SMEs and multi-national clients in the sport, healthcare, retail, technology, and e-commerce sectors.
Matt has also conducted advocacy for clients at the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal in England and Wales, as well as the Industrial Tribunal in Northern Ireland and the Workplace Relations Commission in the Republic of Ireland. This ranged from short preliminary hearings through to complex multi-day hearings.
Matt regularly advises clients on a range of employment law issues. He is particularly valued for his knowledge of unfair dismissal, discrimination, and whistleblowing law and his dedicated and pragmatic approach to achieving the best results for his clients.
Matt also provides regular updates to his colleagues on recent developments to case law and how they apply to the facts of claims that they are defending. A recent example is that of the 'separability principle' as established in Kong v Gulf International Bank.
