Taylor Wessing advises Flink on acquisition of Cajoo and entry of Carrefour as shareholder in Flink

Flink SE takes over the French competitor Cajoo and with it the number one position in the French market for on-demand delivery services for groceries. The French supermarket giant Carrefour has played a major role in this development, joining Flink as a new shareholder and investor. An international Taylor Wessing team led by Berlin-based VC expert Norman Röchert advised Flink on the acquisition of Cajoo as well as on Carrefour's entry as shareholder and investor. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the investments of Carrefour and the volume of the takeover of Cajoo by Flink.

On Flink's side, the transaction was advised by the in-house team led by Dr. Norman Koschmieder, who joined Flink in July 2021 and has since headed Flink's legal department, which now consists of twelve employees.

Cajoo will no longer operate under its own brand. Flink is thus also taking over the Cajoo infrastructure, which has 30 hubs in nine cities including Paris. In addition, 400,000 Cajoo customers will be transferred to the Flink app by the end of the year. The exclusive partnership with the supermarket giant Carrefour, which aims to offer a comprehensive range of goods at competitive prices, should ensure that they continue to use the service. The Berlin-based company already has similar partnerships for goods purchasing and logistics planning with REWE in Germany.

Flink is currently active in 90 cities in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Austria. Supermarket chain Carrefour operates 13,000 shops in 40 countries and generated gross sales of €81.2 billion in 2021.

Taylor Wessing has been advising Flink since its inception in December 2020, most recently in a Series B financing round for US$750 million (approximately €670 million) of investment capital. The company thus advanced to multiple unicorn status after less than seven months of operations.
