The Berlin-based logistics start-up sennder GmbH has taken over its competitor Uber Freight B.V. based in Amsterdam and thus the entire European business of the Uber freight logistics platform within the framework of a cross-border acquisition of shares. The strategic acquisition strengthens sennder’s position as Europe’s leading transport service platform. A team from the international law firm Taylor Wessing led by the Hamburg Partner Jens Wolf advised sennder on all legal issues in connection with the acquisition of Uber Freight B.V. as well as the parallel financing round.
At the same time as the acquisition of Uber Freight B.V., which was almost entirely negotiated and executed via video conference or electronic means in four jurisdictions (Germany, Netherlands, USA, UK) due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, sennder completed an extension of its Series C financing round, in which Uber Freight reinvested the purchase price for the shares in Uber Freight B.V.
As a result of the acquisition, sennder will grow to around 500 employees working at locations in seven countries. According to the company, sennder aims to generate annual sales of one billion Euros by 2024.
