Global law firm Taylor Wessing has decided on a new diversified strategy regarding its international alliance. As part of a structural change, Taylor Wessing plans further growth and innovation, focusing on Europe and beyond, whereas the firm’s UK partnership is intending to combine its business with US firm Winston & Strawn, creating a transatlantic law firm that would operate under a new shared name, Winston Taylor. Subject to a partner vote to that effect, the UK partnership could therefore leave the Taylor Wessing alliance at the end of April 2026.
Because of the strength of the relationship and the breadth of experience that they have together, Taylor Wessing and its UK partnership will enter into a co-operation agreement with Winston Taylor from 1 May 2026 to ensure shared client work and cooperation with mutual clients will continue as normal.
Commenting on the development, Global Co-Chair and Managing Partner at Taylor Wessing Germany Oliver Bertram said:
“We are rightly proud of the many years of collaboration and success we have shared with our British colleagues. So, we are pleased to have achieved an arrangement that ensures work continues as normal despite the structural change but which does not impact our ability to push expansion, agility and innovation working with other firms in Europe as well as the US.”
Shane Gleghorn, Global Co-Chair and Managing Partner at Taylor Wessing UK added:
“These are exciting times for the expansion of opportunities available to Taylor Wessing. We are delighted that while pursuing different strategic goals, the depth of our relationship means we will go on working together in a collaboration and referral relationship so that we can continue to deliver for our clients.”
