Learneo, based in Redwood City, California, has purchased German-based LanguageTooler GmbH. With the acquisition of the multilingual writing platform for English, Spanish and 30 other languages, Learneo is expanding its range of writing solutions, while also advancing the company’s larger international expansion strategy. A Taylor Wessing team led by M&A lawyers Alexander Roth and Daniel Schrembs advised the buyer side on all German legal aspects related to the transaction.
LanguageTooler was started in 2003 by Daniel Naber in Potsdam, Germany. Today, the company boasts over 60,000 paying subscribers, including professionals and enterprise clients, and millions more free users across Europe and Latin America. With this acquisition, Learneo now comprises seven distinct business lines: CliffsNotes, Course Hero, LanguageTool, LitCharts, QuillBot, Scribbr, and Symbolab – a platform of businesses that’s pioneering advances in a wide range of applications for emergent technologies, including the use of AI to improve people's written communications, reading, and math skills, whether they are in school, a professional work environment, or simply navigating everyday life.
