Taylor Wessing, under the lead of Dr Philip Cavaillès and Dr Armin Bartsch, has advised East X Ventures, co-lead investor in Proxima Fusion's €411 million Series A-2 financing round, throughout the transaction on all legal aspects of the investment.
The financing is the largest private fusion funding round ever completed in Europe and ranks among the largest globally, valuing Proxima Fusion at nearly €2.5 billion.
The Series A-2 round was co-led by East X Ventures and XTX Ventures, with strategic participation from RWE and Google, alongside KfW Capital, SPRIND – Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, Burda Principal Investments and Proxima Fusion's existing investors.
Proxima Fusion, a Munich-based fusion energy company and spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, is developing stellarator-based fusion power plants designed to deliver safe, clean and abundant energy. The proceeds from the financing will be used to accelerate the development of Alpha, the company's net-energy-gain demonstration stellarator, and to further expand its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities on the path towards commercial fusion energy.
