We partner with the Schools Consent Project, a lawyer-run initiative which discusses the legal definition of consent and key sexual offences with students aged 11-18.
The World Health Organisation estimates that one in three women experience sexual violence during their lifetime. In 2021, Ofsted reported that nearly 90% of girls in school have been sent unwanted sexually explicit images/videos and that sexual harassment occurs so frequently that it is "commonplace".
The aim of Schools Consent Project is therefore to normalise conversations about consent amongst young people in order to tackle sexually harmful attitudes, with a specific focus on digital media.
SCP trains up volunteer lawyers to deliver workshops into secondary schools which encourage safe, healthy interactions and reduce the likelihood of young people experiencing - or perpetrating - sexual harm. The goal is to give young people an ability to identify their boundaries and the boundaries in others, to understand the harms of sexually abusive behaviour, and to feel confident speaking up.
By the end of 2025, Taylor Wessing volunteers will have collectively delivered 19 consent workshops to approximately 665 young people. We acknowledge that something has to change and we're proud to support SCP's mission.
Please note that we do not accept direct requests for legal assistance from individuals. If you need legal assistance, we recommend that you contact your local Law Centre, Legal Advice Clinic or Citizens Advice Bureau.
