Taylor Wessing strengthens its European patent litigation offering with the arrival of a leading team in Amsterdam. Bas Berghuis van Woortman, one of the most experienced patent litigators in the Netherlands, is set to join from Simmons & Simmons, together with his team of patent specialists. From 1 August 2025, Sebastien Versaevel, Diptanil Debbarma and Bouke Algie will join, with Daisy Termeulen following on 1 December. Bas’ start date will be announced later.
Together, the team brings a strong reputation in complex, cross-border patent litigation and advisory work. The move underscores Taylor Wessing’s strength as a litigation platform for technically driven, cross-border patent work. Their combined expertise significantly enhances our ability to advise on sophisticated disputes across Europe, with a focus on the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
The incoming Amsterdam team has a proven track record in telecoms, life sciences and high tech. Bas is widely recognised for his work in high-stakes disputes and has acted in several high-profile, UPC-relevant cases. Sebastien is a European Patent Attorney with a background in applied physics and a focus on litigation and licensing. Diptanil specialises in telecoms patents, freedom-to-operate analyses and prosecution. Bouke brings life sciences litigation experience underpinned by a scientific foundation. Daisy has broad experience in IP litigation across pharma, TMT and regulatory contexts.
This expansion is part of Taylor Wessing’s broader strategy to strengthen its integrated, pan-European litigation practice with deep technical capability. Following recent additions in cities like Paris, our litigation teams now operate seamlessly across jurisdictions, combining legal strategy with sector-specific knowledge in key UPC countries.

Amsterdam - Taylor Wessing versterkt haar Europese patent litigation praktijk met de komst van een toonaangevend team in Amsterdam. Bas Berghuis van Woortman, een van de meest ervaren patentlitigators van Nederland, sluit zich aan bij het kantoor vanuit Simmons & Simmons, samen met zijn team van patentspecialisten. Per 1 augustus 2025 starten Sebastien Versaevel, Diptanil Debbarma en Bouke Algie, gevolgd door Daisy Termeulen op 1 december. De startdatum van Bas wordt op een later moment bekendgemaakt.
