Taylor Wessing has advised the shareholders of Austrian market leader myClubs on the acquisition by its German competitor Urban Sports Club. myClubs, the largest sports aggregator in Austria and Switzerland with over 1,200 sports providers, has been offering its customers flexible sports subscriptions and easy access to various sports and boutique studios since 2014.
myClubs offers highly popular B2C memberships and innovative corporate fitness products for employees of over 300 companies such as EY, Samsung and Pfizer. A new partnership with REWE's jö Bonus Club expands digital access to sport. In addition, myClubs is a pioneer in digital fitness products for health insurers such as SWICA, Helsana and CSS.
The sellers were advised by a team led by Taylor Wessing Vienna Partner Philip Hoflehner (Corporate). The acquisition by the Berlin-based company Urban Sports Club is a significant milestone in the development of myClubs, the domestic start-up scene and the European fitness industry as a whole. The joint ambition is, among other things, to establish a comprehensive offering for corporate fitness in the entire DACH region and to further advance the digital development of fitness offerings in Europe.
