Double success for Taylor Wessing: the China teams of the Private Wealth and Technology, Media & Communications practice groups have been honoured at the China Business Law Awards 2021. The former won for the second time in a row in the category "Family Wealth Management", the TMC experts for the first time in the category "Data Protection Privacy".
The China Business Law Awards, organised by the China Business Law Journal (CBLJ), are among the most prestigious awards in the country for Chinese and international law firms. They are awarded primarily on the basis of nominations, recommendations and endorsements from China-focused business consultants and lawyers from around the world. Furthermore, outstanding transactions, best cases and other notable achievements of the respective law firms from the past year are included as evaluation criteria.
Taylor Wessing's Private Wealth team is led internationally by Nick Warr (London) and Martin Kraus (Germany), with Rachel Yao (Shanghai) leading in China. With more than 70 experienced lawyers worldwide, the team provides legal and tax advice to family offices, high net worth individuals and foundations on their cross-border activities. The consecutive award confirms the team's leading market position on an international level, including the ever-growing clientele in China.
Nick Warr: "Our international reputation for providing innovative and value-creating private wealth advice is long established in Europe and is becoming increasingly prevalent in China. We are committed to providing our clients with a service that exceeds their expectations. The reward for this commitment is reflected in this renewed award, which we are delighted to receive, as it reflects the appreciation of our clients."
This is the first time that the TMC practice has received a China Business Law Award. Its head in China, Michael Tan, is delighted with the award: "This success is proof of the outstanding expertise of our lawyers in this field, which is constantly developing globally and, of course, also in China. The spirit of the team and its international set-up has paved the way for Taylor Wessing to receive this award. We are proud of this and thank our clients for their encouraging feedback."
Michael-Florian Ranft, international head of Taylor Wessing's China Group, believes that the double award at this year's China Business Law Awards is the gratifying result of many years of constant development of Taylor Wessing's China and Asia competencies: "We have now been present and visible in the Chinese market for over 25 years. Experience, innovation, team spirit, flexibility, enjoyment of further development, pragmatism, efficiency and identification with the economic goals of our clients are certainly among the keys. That our clients have recognised us with now five awards at the China Business Law Awards since our first participation in 2016 pleases us as much as it inspires us to continue to do our best."
Taylor Wessing's International China Group has been advising European companies on their business activities in China, as well as Chinese companies investing and expanding in Europe, for almost three decades. It has over 50 lawyers advising on complex Sino-foreign projects and transactions.
