Benchmark and the existing shareholder btov both invested in the company with Benchmark now holding 13.6% of the shares in DeepL. The international law firm Taylor Wessing advised Benchmark regarding all legal aspects of this investment.
Founded in 2009 and based in Cologne, DeepL has developed advanced online tools for the automated translation of text into various languages. Originally operating Linguee, an online search engine for translations, the company renamed itself into DeepL and introduced the software DeepL in 2017 which uses artificial intelligence to provide users with accurate translations of single words, text passages and complete documents. Translations can be made from and into several languages.
