While once an industrial city, Brno has embraced the shift to a technology-driven economy, becoming an important centre for R&D for both tech and clinical research, with the Central European Institute of Technology and the International Clinical Research Center both based in the city. Engineering and software development have a major presence.
Brno is also the capital of the Czech judicial authority, home to the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office.
