Led by Hamburg-based partner Dr Mark Hoenike, Taylor Wessing has advised GlobalConnect on the sale of its B2C business in Germany to Stadtwerke Neumünster (SWN), which will continue to operate the network through its subsidiary NordConnect. As part of the transaction, NordConnect will in future assume responsibility for the FTTH (Fibre to the Home) network, supplying residential customers in the Hamburg and Kiel regions.
GlobalConnect had already announced in 2024 that it would focus its B2C investments on the Nordic countries in future and scale back its activities in the residential customer business in Germany accordingly. With the transaction now agreed, the company is taking the next step in this strategic realignment. Existing contracts will remain valid until the transfer is completed; all affected customers will be informed in writing in good time about the next steps.
NordConnect is a municipal telecommunications company headquartered in Neumünster. The company was founded at the end of 2025 by Stadtwerke Neumünster and Stadtwerke SH and brings together network operations, sales and customer service in the field of fibre-optic and telecommunications services.
In future, GlobalConnect will focus exclusively on business customers and network operators in Germany. The company continues to see significant growth potential, particularly in the area of secure and resilient digital infrastructure. This is driven by rising demand from businesses, hyperscalers and network operators for cloud services, AI applications, data centres and high-performance connections.
