Ixana, a company specialising in high-speed human computer interactions, recently unveiled a new technology called Wi-R, which used the electromagnetic field around the human body as a conductor for a new generation of personal devices designed to replace the chunky virtual reality headsets of today. As the number of NFTs attached to physical products (“phygitals”) increases, the process of redeeming physical NFTs has become more challenging. As NFTs are generally only linked to a digital wallet, NFT projects have had difficulties collecting personal information from the NFT holders, which makes shipping the products or informing NFT holders, that the phygitals are ready to be redeemed, rather complicated. Some companies are therefore introducing new redemption mechanisms in order to speed up and simplify the redemption process.

PayPal is reported to be considering launching its own cryptocurrency. The new “PayPal Coin” will supposedly be backed by the US dollar and its development comes after PayPal allowed US customers to hold cryptocurrencies in October 2020 and subsequently enabled purchased with said coins from March 2021. PayPal currently charges a transaction fee of 2.3% for crypto transaction, but it is unsure if this, or any other aspects of using crypto on this platform, will change once its own stablecoin is launched.

Some companies are therefore beginning to explore the idea of transitioning their workplaces into the metaverse. Suggestions of fully digital workplaces have been heavily criticised however, as significant concerns about data security and mass-monitored digital environments have been raised.
