Thinking differently

This is the last newsletter before the Hospitality in the News summer break. It neatly falls in the same week as "Freedom Day" which for many in the UK hospitality and leisure sector brings hope of a return to something approaching normality after the toughest 14 months for the sector on record. Nightclubs have finally been allowed to reopen, social distancing in restaurants and bars is no more and large events such as weddings and concerts have no attendance restrictions. This is great news – though tempered by the enormous challenges of the "pingdemic" which is causing hospitality businesses to shut because they have no staff (for non-UK readers the "pingdemic" refers to the half a million people being "pinged" every week by the NHS Track and Trace app and having to self-isolate because they have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID). The road out of COVID is still a long one but we hope that over the summer months the sector bounces back and starts to repair some of the damage caused by COVID. Have a great summer – we'll be back in September.
