We have advised SEGA Europe, a worldwide leader in video games and interactive entertainment on its sale of Amplitude Studios through a management buyout led by senior leaders and employees.
SEGA initially acquired Amplitude in 2016 and together they have released epic strategy titles like Endless Space 2 and Humankind, along with Endless Dungeon, the successor to 2014’s indie hit, Dungeon of the Endless. This deal will see Amplitude return to its roots as an independent studio and focus on its in-development projects and growing its own franchises, while SEGA will continue to advance its strong and diverse stable of Japanese and Western IP.
This cross-border deal concludes the recent structural reform programme which has been taking place in SEGA's European business, including the sale of Relic Entertainment in March 2024, a deal also led by the same Taylor Wessing team.
Commenting on Taylor Wessing's support, VP Legal & Business Affairs, Daniel Finegold, said: "Taylor Wessing is our long-standing partner, and have supported us for many years on numerous transactions and commercial issues across our business. They are exceptional advisers who make deals happen. We are so thankful to them."
This deal was led by partner David Bates and senior counsel Richard Faichney in the UK corporate team.
Other members of the UK team included associates Loye Oyedotun and Jack Turner, trainee Celine Enos and paralegal Savannah Swale. In France, the team included partner Gilles Amsallem, counsel Dalila Mabrouki-Jacques, and associate Sebastien Pottemain, in the corporate team, associate Laura Berdugo-Donnersberg in the employment team and counsel Gwendal Chatain in the tax team.
