First published in June 2022, Adam Griffiths shares his expertise of the Irish market, its opportunities, and the international enablers that will turn the creation of more Unicorns from fantasy to reality.
Ireland’s quest to produce a clutch of start-ups valued at more than $1 billion is no flight of fantasy. Like the mystical creatures that share their name, unicorns are rare and hard to come by. It won’t simply be a matter of Isif throwing money at start-ups with good prospects, an ecosystem must be created. One common trait among Ireland’s unicorns is that they share an international mindset from the start, thinking about which international market will suit. Founders and Isif need to be working on plans that envisage a business that delivers into all international markets.
There is also an opportunity for the Irish government to replicate the success of the US and UK by standardising investor documentation.
