1 March 2021
We have expanded our real estate sector group with the hire of a team from Greenberg Traurig.
Michael Goldberg joins our London office as a partner on 1 March, bringing with him a team of three associates all of whom are specialists in structured real estate.
The blend of expertise across corporate M&A and commercial real estate is an area of growth and focus for us following the appointments of Matthew Swainston from Forsters in June last year and Mark Rajbenbach from Paul Hastings in 2017.
Michael specialises in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets work, with significant expertise in the real estate sector. He is known for supporting a broad range of clients on structured real estate opportunities. From the world's largest banks, to iconic tall buildings and retail groups, he regularly advises on billion-dollar transactions in the real estate sector.
UK Managing Partner Shane Gleghorn said: "Michael is renowned in the market for his expertise on some of the most recognisable real estate transactions in the City and having him and his team is a significant asset. Building our capabilities in corporate M&A and capital markets advice in the real estate market provides more opportunities for existing and prospective clients and continued growth for our business."
UK Executive Board member and corporate partner James Goold added: “Our corporate lawyers distinguish themselves by being true specialists in their chosen sectors, with market-leading reputations, and so benefit our clients with the greatest levels of relevant expertise. Michael’s appointment further evidences our ability to attract some of the most prestigious sector-focussed talent in the market today.”
Head of UK Real Estate Keith Barnett: "We are seeing more demand from our international clients to develop their commercial real estate portfolios and investment continues to increase. The appointment of Michael and his team is a significant expansion of our real estate group. Their expertise enhances our capability, enabling us to support the increasing client demand we're seeing on high value structured real estate transactions."
This is the second team we have announced this year, following the appointment of 13 lawyers in the private wealth sector from BCLP in January/February.
