International law firm Taylor Wessing has further enhanced its international private wealth capability, creating one of the largest private wealth teams by total number of lawyers in the European market with the hire of a team of lawyers from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.
In addition to partners Damian Bloom and Simon Phelps, whose moves to Taylor Wessing were announced in November, the firm has today confirmed the hire of 11 further lawyers from the firm. These hires follow Murray North joining the firm in May 2020 and Kunal Vyas joining in 2018, both also from BCLP. The new team comprises a mix of consultants, senior counsel, associates and a professional support lawyer.
The additional capability brings the firm's Europe-based private wealth team to more than 100 lawyers and bolsters the firm's already strong position in markets where there are strong concentrations of ultra-high net worth individuals and families and enhances its offering across tax services, financial services and the intermediary markets, as well as increasing market share in Asia.
Partner and Head of the firm's International Private Wealth sector group Nick Warr said: "The hire of the team from BCLP further underlines a commitment and dedication to our private wealth offering. Our ambition is to be the preferred choice for globally mobile, ultra-high net worth individuals and families when they need a connected legal adviser to work with them to grow, protect and transfer their wealth. This team hire will bolster the services we offer to address the complex needs of the largest multigenerational families, globally."
UK Managing Partner Shane Gleghorn added: “The international private wealth sector promises growth and opportunity on a global scale. Only a small number of firms can provide the full range of cross-border services the clients require. These hires represent a significant development in our strategy to be the preferred firm for globally mobile, ultra-high net worth individuals and families because we have significantly strengthened our service lines in tax, trusts and international estate planning."
The new team members are expected to join between now and February 2021.
Taylor Wessing's International Private Wealth team offers a holistic suite of legal services that cover the personal and corporate needs of the global UHNW community across the entire spectrum of their wealth from growth stage through to transition to the next generation.
