Taylor Wessing has advised Wooga, Berlin-based casual games developer, on its sale to Israeli mobile games company, Playtika Ltd (Playtika).
Famous for hits like June’s Journey and Tropicats, Wooga develops games in the Puzzle and Hidden Object categories. Combining Wooga’s creative and story-driven capabilities with Playtika’s marketing, scale and data-driven expertise, the acquisition will help to boost Wooga’s global growth and position Playtika as a fast-growing player in the casual games sector.
Wooga’s CEO Jens Begemann will continue to lead the team from its Berlin headquarters, leveraging the Wooga brand to attract top talent.
Mike Turner, Partner and International Head of Technology, Media and Communications at Taylor Wessing, said:
“Wooga makes exceptional, high quality games that appeal to a huge market, and it stands to reason that Playtika wanted to incorporate Wooga's portfolio into its own business. This was a very exciting deal to work on as it hits our sweet spot, leveraging our specialist knowledge of the mobile gaming space and international reach.”
Jens Begemann, co-founder and CEO of Wooga, said:
“Becoming part of Playtika will open the next chapter in the history of our company. We have the expertise in creating and launching popular games, and Playtika has the technologies to help us scale and reach new audiences to continue our growth. Mike and his team at Taylor Wessing have done outstanding work on the transaction, and we look forward to working with them in the future."
The Taylor Wessing team was led by partner Mike Turner and associate Katie Kaplucha in London, supported by partners Dr. Gregor Schmid and Dr. Norman Röchert in Berlin.
This is the latest in a long line of games deals that Taylor Wessing has advised on this year.
