New right to work check rules for UK employers

UK employers must change the way they do their right to work checks from 6 April 2022. From that date, some checks can only be performed using an online process, rather than an in-person check of physical documents. Increase in compensation limits

The government has announced this year's increase in compensation limits in employment tribunal claims. These are: 

  • a week's pay (basic award and statutory redundancy payment) - £571 (from £544)
  • maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal - £93,878 (from £89,493)

The new limits will apply to dismissals occurring on or after 6th April 2022.
