National Debtors Register - a new source of information in Poland

  • Quick read

The National Debtors Register (Krajowy Rejestr Zadłużonych “KRZ”) began operating in Poland in July 2021.

The KRZ is a new valuable tool providing, among other things, information on debtors. It is a statewide, public register and can be accessed by any person who has the debtor's PESEL (Polish national identification number) or NIP (Polish taxpayer's identification number) or the file reference number of the debtor's case.

The KRZ data is provided by the courts and bailiffs (not by the creditors). This helps to ensure that the information stored is accurate and up-to-date.  The data is automatically removed from the register after a specified period.

The KRZ only discloses information on a specific group of debtors, namely individuals, legal persons and companies against whom the following proceedings are or have been in progress:

  • restructuring
  • bankruptcy or secondary bankruptcy proceedings
  • proceedings where the debtor has been banned from conducting a business activity
  • proceedings for the recognition of a decision opening foreign insolvency proceedings in relation to the debtor.
    • Key takeaways

The National Debt Register provides a public database of individuals, legal persons and companies which are insolvent, at risk of insolvency or where ineffective enforcement has been discontinued.
