Taylor Wessing advised Banque des Territoires on its investment, alongside Amarenco, an independent renewable energy producer, in the Claudia project—one of the largest stationary battery storage facilities in France, located in Saucats (33). Following this transaction, Banque des Territoires acquired a 49% stake in the project. The current facility will double its storage capacity within a year to reach 188 MWh, enough to cover the annual electricity consumption of 24,000 households in France.
The Claudia project plays a key role in decarbonizing peak electricity consumption and ensuring grid stability. It contributes to:
- reducing dependence on thermal and carbon-based peak generation sources;
- providing essential reserve capacity and frequency balancing services for RTE;
- controlling electricity costs for consumers.
Banque des Territoires, a major player in France’s ecological transition, is thus strengthening its strategy to support electricity storage, a sector in which it has been active since 2021. This investment in Claudia represents a significant step toward accelerating the deployment of efficient, rapid, and cost-effective solutions to address the challenges posed by the intermittency of renewable energy.
