Taylor Wessing's China Group has achieved a twofold success: Both the law firm's IP experts and legal tech services have been recognised for their practice at the China Business Law Awards 2025. The China Business Law Awards, presented by China Business Law Journal (CBLJ), are among the most prestigious awards for Chinese and international law firms. They are awarded primarily on the basis of nominations, recommendations and endorsements from business consultants specialising in China and lawyers from around the world. In addition, outstanding transactions, best cases and other notable achievements by the respective law firms over the past year are taken into account in the evaluation.
The consistent focus on legal tech as a complementary pillar of future-oriented legal advice with numerous tools developed in-house was decisive for winning this year's China Business Law Award ‘Legaltech Pioneers’. Mike Goldammer, Partner and Chief Representative of the firm’s Shanghai office, knows how to put the success into context: ‘China sets the pace in many areas and is a highly competitive environment. Against this backdrop, we feel extremely proud that our legal tech services have received such positive feedback in a relatively short period and at the same time we feel very much honoured to receive the corresponding China Business Law Award. We will continue this path with the same intensity so as to help our clients coping with the various legal challenges in a more efficient way.’
The China Business Law Award 2025 in the ‘IP Patent’ category is also a first for the patent attorneys of the China Group. The decisive factor here is the successful representation of Chinese clients in Europe: ‘The award is an expression of the appreciation of our clients, especially those in the Chinese market, whose interests we have been able to defend excellently, particularly when entering the European market and in IP disputes,’ said Dr Jingjing Cao, partner in Taylor Wessing's Shanghai office and specialising in patent law advice and litigation. ‘We are proud of our work and thank our clients for this encouraging feedback.’
Christoph Hezel, Partner and Head of China Group, emphasises: ‘The CNBLA awards granted for Corporate Compliance and Employment & Labour in 2024 as well as the second double success in a row in the categories IP/Patent and as Legaltech Pioneers in 2025 mirrors the strong positioning of the TW China-Group in several of our core legal areas for both China inbound and outbound clients. At the same time this underlines our forward-thinking approach when it comes to legal technology.’
Taylor Wessing's International China Group has been advising European companies on their business activities in China and Chinese companies looking to invest and expand in Europe for more than three decades. The group consists of more than 50 lawyers who advise on complex Chinese-foreign projects and transactions. Earlier this year, the move to new offices in Shanghai marked a strategic shift towards becoming a centre of excellence for inbound business in China.
