The Windrush Compensation Scheme was launched in April 2019 by the Home Office for individuals in the Windrush Generation who did not have the right documentation to prove their status in the UK, and who suffered adverse effects as a result.
Taylor Wessing, alongside seven other law firms in London, work with the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit to provide pro bono assistance to individuals seeking compensation from the Home Office via the Windrush Compensation Scheme.
The joint initiative was launched in 2021 following concern over the low level of applications to the Scheme.
As of October 2025, the collaboration has 52 active clients and 15 completed matters. The total compensation recovered for clients has surpassed £1 million.
Taylor Wessing's work so far has contributed to roughly 15% of that total compensation amount. We continue to represent individuals in their journey to seek compensation for historic wrongs they and their families have been subjected to.
