UK Lifts quarantine rules for EU and US nationals – 2 August 2021

In a welcome move for visitors and business travellers to the UK, as well as the UK's tourism industry and airlines, the UK government announced on 28 July that from 04:00 on Monday 2 August 2021 fully vaccinated travellers to England from the US or an amber list EU country (except France) will no longer need to quarantine for 10 days.

The lifting of the quarantine rules will apply only to those whose vaccination has been approved by the European Medicines Agency or the US Food and Drugs Administration. It is expected that this relaxation will be mirrored across the UK.

Travellers will still need to take a PCR test in the 72 hours prior to travelling to the UK and on the second day after arrival.

This exemption will not apply to those travelling from France who will remain subject to the quarantine. It will also not apply to those arriving from red list countries who will still be required to stay at a quarantine hotel following their arrival if they are permitted entry.

More details about how tests will be checked are expected in the coming days.
