Taylor Wessing and H.M. Chan & Co today announce that they have mutually agreed to decouple and H.M. Chan & Co will re-launch as an independent firm in Hong Kong. The two firms will continue working together on client matters and supporting one another’s future strategies in Asia. The decoupling will be effective from 17 November 2025.
The development comes after Taylor Wessing announced an ambitious growth strategy focused on achieving pre-eminence in its core sectors across major European markets, with carefully calibrated presence in other regions, led by its clients' cross-border needs. As part of this strategy, the firm has recently announced a realignment of its China presence which concentrates the firm's capabilities in an expanded Shanghai office and plans to open a new office in Shenzhen in due course.
H.M. Chan & Co is a Hong Kong corporate law firm established by professionals with many years of extensive experience in handling cross-border international and Asia-wide transactions. The firm was set up by Mark Chan as its founder and managing partner in 2015, and initially operated in association with Taylor Wessing from 2016 to 2021 before formally becoming Taylor Wessing in 2021. During this time, it was recognised on numerous occasions as the 'Transactional Boutique Law Firm of the Year' in Hong Kong by Asian Legal Business.
