Leading networking forum for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender real estate professionals, Freehold, has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the sector at the Estates Gazette Awards 2018.
Supported by international law firm Taylor Wessing, Freehold was set up as an industry first network exclusively for the real estate sector and has attracted over 1200 members since launching in 2011. Members include surveyors, asset managers, architects, developers, investors and property lawyers from the public and private sector.
The awards took place at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday 19 September.
Freehold is described by many as a 'pioneering LGBT network'. Its work in addressing the importance of diversity and inclusion, as well as its initiatives that support professionals across the industry has achieved this most recent accolade.
Commenting on the award, Saleem Fazal, co-founder of Freehold and real estate partner, said: " The mainstream real estate sector lags behind most others when it comes to diversity and inclusion, a character trait that can no longer be tolerated. It is bad for our reputation, business and innovation. That's why we set up Freehold.
"Our mentoring scheme is just one of the ways we challenge inequality and support people to benefit from the experience of senior members. Many mentees and members are now industry LGBT role models for the next generation and this award is very much a result of everyone's contribution and commitment."
