Your latest instalment of articles and opinions from across the Hospitality sector.
This is our last newsletter of the year, so we are in reflective mood and thought we'd look back at the game changer of 2019. With Greta Thunberg being Time Magazine's 2019 Person of the Year it seems fitting to focus on our planet and sustainability. 2019 was a tipping point for the hospitality sector and many initiatives were launched to reduce the impact on the environment. We have seen a commitment by Hilton to recycle soap bars, Marriott and IHG, and others, to ban single use toiletries and Air New Zealand are trialling edible coffee cups. EasyJet to their credit set the bar far higher by announcing it will become the world’s first major airline to operate net-zero carbon flights across its entire network by offsetting all jet fuel emissions. Whilst positive, however, these are the first few steps on a long journey.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!
PS make sure you recycle all that wrapping paper or maybe don’t wrap the presents at all…
