Protecting Your Rights on Facebook

In the week beginning 12 June 2009 social networking web-site Facebook announced that its users will be able to create personalised URLs for their Facebook pages. This means that users will be able to to create URLs such as Facebook.com/JohnJones or Facebook.com/TaylorWessing. According to Facebook, this will make it easier to locate a particular page/person, especially via Internet searches. URLs will be issued on a first-come first-served basis, starting from midnight tonight EDT. To allow trade mark owners to prevent the unauthorised use of their brands as URLs, Facebook is allowing trade mark owners to pre-register their rights.
