Largest financial crime related fine imposed by the FSA to date

On 6 January 2009, the FSA published a Final Notice of a fine of £5.25million against Aon Ltd, the largest financial crime related fine to date, for failing to properly assess the risks involved in its dealings with overseas firms and individuals who helped it to win business, and failing to implement effective controls to mitigate those risks.  As a result of those failures, Aon made a number of suspicious payments, some of which resulted in reports to SOCA and the FSA.
