EU and internal market
We advise clients on opportunities arising from the principles of free movement of goods, services and capital in Europe. These market freedoms, in particular after the enlargement of the European Union, give rise to a vast number of business opportunities for companies setting up subsidiaries in Central and Eastern Europe as well as for companies from the new Member States.
We focus in particular on regulation in industries such as electronics, life sciences, food and chemicals. In addition, we have in-depth experience of representing clients before the European Commission and the European Courts.
Some examples of recent experience include:
- advising associations and companies on complaints to the Commission concerning the obstruction of parallel imports
- advising companies based in the new Member States on transitional arrangements contained in the Accession Treaty with regard to the free movement of services and the freedom of establishment
- defending a Brazilian producer and trader of nuclear fuels in a complex series of lawsuits before German courts and the European Court of Justice, involving questions of interpretation of the EURATOM-Treaty.
