International Arbitration
International business transactions require a means of speedy and impartial resolution of disputes. National courts are not always suitable, for various reasons. Instead, international arbitration has evolved as the method of choice, often because of the industry sector involved, or because arbitration awards are more widely enforceable internationally than court judgments.
International arbitration has grown into a distinct legal specialism that differs from dispute resolution through the court system and follows its own rules. The efficient and successful conduct of arbitral procedures, in particular before international tribunals, therefore requires the expertise of lawyers who are familiar with the various different systems of international arbitration.
Our International Arbitration Group specialises in the handling of all types and sizes of arbitration. A number of its members sit as arbitrators. All are experienced in representing parties before a large variety of institutions, including the ICC, LCIA, AAA, CIETAC, GMAA, DIS, LMAA, GAFTA, FOSFA, RSA, SAL and FCC. We have acted in disputes in all major industries, and have in-depth expertise in construction and engineering, projects, shipping, commodities, international trade, intellectual property, information technology, financial services, insurance and corporate matters.
Members of our International Arbitration group are based in the important international arbitration centres of London, Paris, Germany and Shanghai and are able to provide a seamless cross-border service as and when required.
