Tim is a partner in Taylor Wessing’s disputes and investigations team in London.
Tim specialises in financial and corporate disputes and investigations. He has advised on disputes and regulatory matters involving a huge range of financial products and services, from simple loan default cases to disputes involving complex investment products where hundreds of millions are at stake. He advises companies, their shareholders and their directors on disputes between them, and investigations into potential wrongdoing and regulatory non-compliance. Most of his work crosses borders in some way, involving either legal proceedings or regulators and enforcement authorities in more than one country.
Recent work includes:
- Advising financial institutions and large corporates on disputes in respect of a wide variety of finance arrangements and investments. This has included disputes in respect of derivatives, investments in funds, bonds, and in loan default and security enforcement situations.
- Advising a prominent shareholder of a London listed company on disputes between shareholders and at board level.
- Advising financial institutions on disputes and other legal and regulatory exposures in respect of the selling of financial products and for managing others’ money. This has included claims arising under complex structured products, and defending mis-selling and mis-management claims against hedge fund directors, promoters and managers.
- Investigations into allegations of wrong-doing within companies, including advice on dealing with relevant authorities and defending regulatory or other proceedings which result. This has included advice to AIM and London Stock Exchange listed companies on corruption allegations and on listing rule compliance, and to financial institutions on financial crime issues and systems and controls failings.
Tim regularly writes for and is quoted in the legal and financial markets press on financial disputes and regulatory matters.
Tim is recommended for commercial litigation by Legal 500 2012 and for banking litigation by Chambers 2013, which says: '"User-friendly" Tim Strong provides a measured and responsive service in this field, and earns praise for his "awareness of institutional differences"'. Tim takes a keen interest in the International Bar Association. He is an officer on the litigation committee, currently co-edits International Litigation News, and sits on the editorial board for Dispute Resolution International. He was the committee’s representative in the World Legal Forum-led project to create a specialist dispute resolution facility for financial markets
