Taylor Wessing wins Linklaters' trade mark chief
Roland Mallinson, who heads Linklaters' trade mark portfolio practice in London, is moving to Taylor Wessing with a number of his trade mark portfolio team.
Various multinational brand-owning clients, with a total of some 10,000 trade marks, have indicated their intention to transfer their portfolio and related work to Taylor Wessing to follow Roland. His move follows Linklaters' decision to stop offering trade mark filing and portfolio services as an integral part of its broader opposition and litigation work.
Roland, a recognised leader in trade mark and anti-counterfeiting law, has led Linklaters' London trade mark portfolio practice since 2002. His broad IP practice includes acting on contentious and non-contentious matters for a range of premium brand names from the fashion, banking and brewing sectors through to the software, television and sporting goods sectors.
The move is happening in December. According to Mallinson, he chose to join Taylor Wessing because of its strong reputation as a leader in the IP field, its presence in key European markets and cultural fit. He adds, “I am a strong believer in the need to offer clients a top class, one-stop-shop IP service for brands and related matters. Taylor Wessing provides me with an excellent platform from which to do this and I am excited about growing its existing high quality brands practice very significantly in coming years.”
Charles Lloyd, head of Taylor Wessing's IP practice, commented: "Roland and his team have great strength all the way down and bring their skills and portfolio of multinational brand clients to complement our leading practice in trade mark litigation and brand management. He also adds anti-counterfeiting and further IT litigation expertise to our IP offering. I am delighted to bring Roland and his team to TW."
Roland’s team joins the existing team of 12 specialist trade mark practitioners in Taylor Wessing's UK IP department, and the firm-wide team of 25 comprising Taylor Wessing‘s pan-European Trade Marks Group. The Group offers a comprehensive, specialist trade mark filing, opposition, litigation and licensing service in all areas required by brand owners across Europe and worldwide for portfolios. In the UK, the Group now numbers among the top five trade mark practices.
