Work involving human tissue samples - a new era in the UK
Lawyers
As of July 5 this year, the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) required all establishments in the UK within which the procurement, testing, distribution, processing and importing/exporting of tissues and cells for human application take place, to be licensed. This is a new requirement. The relevant legislation came into force in the UK on 5 July 2007 but a 12 month moratorium is in place while certain clarifications are sought from the Commission by the HTA.
A brief comment on the new legislation appeared in the July issue of InFocus (Issue 20). A fuller discussion of the changes by Partner Gareth Morgan will be published in Eurolex October 2008
