Taylor Wessing's Commercial Challenge tests the trainees of tomorrow

Leading law firm Taylor Wessing LLP is pleased to announce that 'Kings Commercial Advisors' of Kings College London are the winners of the Taylor Wessing Commercial Challenge 2010. The competition, which is part of the Firm's 2010 graduate marketing campaign, is organised and judged by the Firm's Campus Champions.

The competition will help the Firm to spot the most talented trainees of tomorrow and give students the opportunity to develop their commercial awareness, whilst getting a flavour of working in a law firm.  Initially an intra-London competition, 26 teams entered from Kings College London, University College London and London School of Economics. Following its popularity the Firm is now hoping to expand the competition nationally.

Competing teams were asked to imagine they were Taylor Wessing lawyers and to research and create a pitch for the legal work of a management buyout. The three finalists delivered their pitches to the prospective client's 'Management Board' – made up of the  Campus Champions for the London Universities and the Firm's Graduate Recruitment Partners. Each team had to outline the benefits of instructing Taylor Wessing, the legal and commercial issues surrounding the deal and how those issues should be managed.

"Our Campus Champions devised the Commercial Challenge to give students an opportunity to be involved with something "real" which puts what they are learning into context.

We were incredibly impressed by the quality of the written pitches and, of course, the final presentations which were extremely polished and demonstrated that the students had grasped the key commercial issues faced by the client."

'Kings Commercial Advisors' was made up of law students Emily Cuzner, Jesse Lozano, Barry Griffin and Philip Povey, who were awarded their trophy at a drinks evening at Taylor Wessing's London office, before being whisked away for a celebratory meal at a top London restaurant.
