Taylor Wessing LLP has taken a lead role on the creation of a new Formula One team – Brawn GP F1. A Taylor Wessing team, headed up by private equity partner Russell Van Praagh, advised F1 luminary Ross Brawn on the management buyout of Honda GP to create Brawn GP F1. The deal completed on 5th March 2009.
Taylor Wessing advised Ross Brawn and the management team through the planning, negotiation and execution of the transaction. The negotiations involved balancing numerous, often conflicting, financial and legal interests in a tight and challenging timeframe and amidst intense and sustained media speculation and scrutiny.
Ross Brawn says:
“We are pleased to announce the creation of Brawn GP F1, and I would like to thank Taylor Wessing for their invaluable contribution to making this deal possible.”
Russell Van Praagh, partner at Taylor Wessing adds:
“We are delighted to have represented Ross Brawn and the management team on this hugely exciting deal. This transaction is evidence that, despite a very difficult financial climate, it is still possible for buyouts to be done.”
The purchase was led by Russell Van Praagh (Private Equity) and the team included Peter Jackson (Tax & Incentives), Ann Casey (Tax & Incentives), Sean Nesbitt (Employment) and Adela Solomon, Daniel Samson and Carlos Gil Rivas (all on the Private Equity side).
