Taylor Wessing Cements Commitment to North East Entrepreneurs

09-Oct-2009

European law firm Taylor Wessing LLP has cemented its commitment to helping local entrepreneurs and growing businesses by raising over £20,000 in targeted donations for youth charity The Prince’s Trust Business Programme in the North East. This donation comes as the firm continues to work alongside Business Link in the region, arranging popular day-long “entrepreneurs’ colleges” across the North East.

Taylor Wessing's donation of £10,000 plus gift aid arises through the firm's annual sponsorship of The Prince's Trust's Technology Leadership Group, a fundraising and networking forum for companies in the technology industry. It was matched by the European Regional Development Fund’s ‘Enterprising Young People’ programme. The funds will now be used for The Trust’s Business Programme in the North East, giving young people funding and support to start up in business.

The donation forms an integral part of Taylor Wessing’s long-term commitment to supporting talented entrepreneurs and forward-thinking companies in the region. Over the last few months, the firm has run popular workshops for growing businesses in association with Business Link in the North East. The sessions cover essential legal and business issues for companies, allowing businesses access to Taylor Wessing’s pool of expertise at zero-cost, in order to help them raise finance, develop and build on their successes.

Taylor Wessing partner Tim Stocks comments:

“We are delighted to continue our support for North East entrepreneurs by helping the Prince’s Trust with this donation.

“Taylor Wessing has a track record of providing sound business advice alongside legal expertise in order to help clients across a range of sectors grow their business. We look forward to seeing start-up companies in the North East grow further and helping them put their plans into action.”

Julian Barrell, Director of Fundraising, The Prince’s Trust said:

“We need £1 million a week to help young people reach their potential. Taylor Wessing’s support is instrumental to this success – particularly in this difficult economic climate."

Nicki Clark, assistant chief executive of Business & Enterprise North East, which runs the region’s Business Link and International Trade services, said:

“Taylor Wessing LLP has given excellent support to North East businesses and those looking to start a new enterprise in the region.

“It is more important than ever that companies do what they can to support entrepreneurialism and innovation. Taylor Wessing LLP is a great example of that and their generosity and expertise has enabled people to access opportunities that would otherwise have been unavailable to them.

“Business Link is committed to doing everything possible to ensure that every North East business, regardless of size or sector, receives the support it needs.  Our ongoing priority is to offer practical and relevant help that will shape and grow the region’s economy and show the world that the North East means business.”
