Taylor Wessing has been named Contentious Trust and Estates Team of the Year at the 2011/12 STEP Awards, beating firms such as Withers and Farrers in an extremely competitive category. The annual STEP Awards highlight excellence among private client solicitors, accountants, barristers, bankers, trust managers and financial advisors.
Taylor Wessing’s Contentious Trusts and Estates group is led by Steven Kempster, and includes private client partners Andrew Hine and Andrew Goodman, commercial disputes partners Richard Marsh and David de Ferrars, with private client associate support from Kirstie McGuigan and Caroline Tayler. The team handle cases of significant value and complexity in England and internationally (e.g. Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Cayman, Bermuda) and has witnessed a growth in new matters connected to the Middle East, India and Russia. Matters are led primarily by specialist private client practitioners with litigation support where necessary.
Key highlights over the last 12 months include Steven Kempster and Andrew Hine’s involvement in the effective conclusion of a Bermuda Court approved trust restructuring involving a $5 billion trust fortune, held for a North American family, comprising some substantial well known trading companies.
Several members of the of the team have also picked up a number of individual accolades recently. Steven Kempster was included in The Lawyer magazine's Hot 100 list of leading lawyers, Andrew Hine was rated by peers as one of the Top 5 Tax and Trust Solicitors in the Spear’s Legal Index, and senior associate Kirstie McGuigan was included in the Top 35 Under 35 list of young private client professionals, published by Private Client Practitioner.
