Taylor Wessing has advised Max Property Group in joint venture with Newmarket Property Holdings (a private family trust) on their acquisition of the historic St Katharine Docks Estate for a consideration of approx. £160m.

The Estate represents a significant commercial and residential scheme, which includes offices, shops, restaurants and cafes, in addition to the marina business operated from the dock basins. Max Property Group plan to refurbish the existing buildings around the marina with the intention of attracting significant interest from financial services firms in addition to other city tenants ahead of other major office developments coming to the market.

The cross practice Taylor Wessing team was led by real estate partners Richard Grosse and Alan Evans and corporate partner Jayne Schnider. Louise Tobutt was the lead associate in real estate and Jon Blackburn the lead associate in corporate. The due diligence team also involved a large number of partners and associates including Holly Grundon, Noel Doran and Alistair Watson in the planning and environment team in addition to James Meakin who provided tax advice.

Richard Grosse commented on the deal:

"We are delighted to have successfully completed the purchase of the St Katharine Docks Estate on behalf of Max Property Group and Newmarket Property Holdings. Max Property Group is a highly valued client of Taylor Wessing, and to have supported them in their joint venture tie up with the private family trust has enabled us to add value to the transaction.

"The St Katharine Docks Estate holds huge potential for City office workers, providing a beautiful setting, unparalleled by any other site in the City of London. Achieving our client's strategic objectives will always be our main ambition and to have completed the purchase of the St Katharine Docks Estate has enabled us to do just that.”
