Taylor Wessing acts for Vivacta on a $4.5 million funding round
Taylor Wessing's award-winning Technology and Inward Investment group has acted for UK medtech business, Vivacta Limited, on a $4.5 million funding round. The investors were AGF Private Equity, HBM Bioventures, Spark Ventures and Viking Technologies, all of which were return backers.
Vivacta Limited, a medical diagnostic company, is currently developing a blood-drop test for thyroid functionality. It hopes to gain regulatory clearance for its lead product within the next 12 months. This is the second fundraising on which Taylor Wessing has advised the company, having previously acted on a £6 million Series B fundraising in 2007.
Taylor Wessing's Technology and Inward Investment group was recently recognised at the 2009 European Venture Capital Journal (EVCJ) Awards, where the firm was named Law Firm of the Year. The firm was described by EVCJ's Executive Editor as having "a formidable reputation"; and "a greater familiarity with new technologies and business practices than other firms".
The Taylor Wessing lawyers advising Vivacta were Partner Simon Walker and Associate Adrian Rainey, both of whom specialise in Venture Capital work.
