Martin Winter announced as new UK senior partner at Taylor Wessing
Martin Winter is to take over from Richard Marsh as UK senior partner of Taylor Wessing with effect 1 September 2005 and will in that role support Michael Frawley (UK) and assist him with the implementation of the European strategy.
Martin, who is 51 years old, has been partner in the firm since 2001 and is currently head of the UK Leveraged Private Equity Group and International Private Capital Group. He has many years' experience in leveraged private equity transactions, advising both institutions and management teams. He has also acted extensively for a range of listed and large private companies on M&A and joint venture work.
He takes over from Richard who has been senior partner for the last seven years. During that time Richard has seen Taylor Wessing grow into a leading European law firm with offices in Germany, France and Shanghai. Richard was responsible for the recruitment of some of the firm's top lateral hires and has been a great ambassador of the firm. He will take on the new role of Head of Commercial Disputes and Insolvency.
Martin proposes to build on Richard's work in the firm and together with the firm's management continue to take Taylor Wessing from strength to strength.
Martin comments:
"It’s been a great privilege to have been part of a firm that's transformed itself in the last five years from a powerful City of London player into a pan European presence, following that strategy determination in 2000. The global nature of City business has meant this international growth has had a hugely positive impact on our City offering.
From a personal perspective its also a great privilege, going forward, to be more closely involved in supporting Michael Frawley, and assisting the firm in achieving its ambitions.
The firm has tremendous people and a tremendous business. Richard Marsh, who must be everyone's perception of the ideal diplomatic, front (and back) of house operator, is an extremely hard act to follow.
Despite the recent despicable outrages, the City, as a top international business centre, is a great place to work and supports the families of so many far outside the confines of the square mile.
Taylor Wessing as an European business is supremely well placed to take advantage of such a fantastic market place"
An English graduate from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, Martin qualified as a solicitor in December 1978, spending five years as an assistant at Norton Rose before joining Biddle where he became a partner in 1985. He was head of Corporate for four years and senior partner from 1996 until its merger in 2001. On a personal note, Martin is a keen water skier ranked 47 equal with his son in slalom in the UK in 2004. Since joining Taylor Wessing he has run eight marathons, perhaps to make up for not running for parliament which he previously did for the Conservative party in 1987 and 1992.
