India Group: UK Government announces immigration cap from April 2011
The Points-Based System (PBS) was launched in 2008. Since its introduction the UK Border Agency (UKBA), with the assistance of the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), has introduced numerous changes to the system, to ensure that only the "brightest and the best" qualify for visas.
On 23 November 2010 the UKBA announced new rules to take effect from April 2011, but employers and migrants should act now where the planned changes may affect them. These changes will impact on the ability of UK businesses to hire Indian and other non-European staff. These changes have been rolled out following lengthy consultation with UK businesses and law firms. Taylor Wessing has been heavily involved.
