THE PROTECTION OF DESIGNS IN CHINA

In 1978, about thirty years ago, China started to establish a legal system to protect modern intellectual property. Originally introduced in 1984, the Chinese patent laws have been revised two times since then, first in 1992 and again in 2000. Recently, a third revision of the Patent Act has been finalized which will take effect on October 1, 2009. Since the protection of designs in China is provided by the Chinese Patent Act, this newly adopted revision will have a particularly significant impact on the system of design patents.
